After bank sting, Jeremy Clarkson should now publish his number plates

Jeremy Clarkson should publish the number plates of his cars so the public can check whether or not he is a safe driver.

After the TV presenter published his bank account details, road safety website BetterDrivingPlease.com is urging the 47-year-old to put details of his cars in the public domain.

Then any member of the public could see if Clarkson is among more than 6,000 UK motorists reported on the website, including more than 1,500 caught illegally using a handheld mobile phone.

Its founder Andrew McGavin said: “As far as we know Jeremy Clarkson doesn’t have any motoring convictions. But that doesn’t necessarily means he is a courteous driver.

“On BetterDrivingPlease.com, anyone can report a driver they see driving dangerously. And the database of incidents can be searched by location or number plate.

“Publishing his number plates could be a great way for Jeremy Clarkson to show that despite his image, he is a safe driver at heart. And there’s no chance of him losing money this way!”

Clarkson published his bank details to prove there was nothing to fear from data loss. That theory proved to be wrong, after an anonymous person used the details to set up a £500 monthly Direct Debit to a charity.

BetterDrivingPlease.com was set up by road safety campaigner Andrew in 2006. He is aiming to build a transparent database of UK road offences.

Research in New Zealand showed that drivers reported to a similar scheme were 23 times more likely to crash than other drivers in the year following being reported.
